Russian Dual Language Immersion

Why Russian?

  • Russian is the primary language of the 150 million citizens of the Russian Federation, as the Russian state calls itself, and is the native language of approximately 30 million people living in the other states which were formed after the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
  • Russian is the key that opens up one of the most important economic, political, and cultural areas of the world. It opens up the largest country of the world and one of the largest produces of natural gas and oil in the world.
  • Russian is the means to understand one of the major European literatures.
     
Russian DLI Phase Out

12‑Year Phase Out of Russian at Overlake/DPHS 

Overview: The Russian language program at Overlake/DPHS will be phased out gradually over 12 years. Each school year removes the program from one additional lower grade level until it is fully discontinued.

Phase‑Out by School Year

  • 2023–2024: Russian offered in Grades 1–7

  • 2024–2025: Russian offered in Grades 2–8

  • 2025–2026: Russian offered in Grades 3–9

  • 2026–2027: Russian offered in Grades 4–10

  • 2027–2028: Russian offered in Grades 5–11

  • 2028–2029: Russian offered in Grades 6–12

  • 2029–2030: Russian offered in Grades 7–12

  • 2030–2031: Russian offered in Grades 8–12

  • 2031–2032: Russian offered in Grades 9–12

  • 2032–2033: Russian offered in Grades 10–12

  • 2033–2034: Russian offered in Grades 11–12

  • 2034–2035: Russian offered in Grade 12 only
