Principal's Message

Dear Students, Parents, and Families,
Welcome to Overlake! I am thrilled to begin the new school year and look forward to meeting each of you. Your involvement and support are highly valued, and I encourage parents to actively participate in our school community. My door is always open, so please feel free to visit if you have any questions, suggestions, or concerns. If you cannot find the information you need, please do not hesitate to contact the school office. We are here to assist you in any way we can.
We are excited to continue our Russian Dual Language Immersion Program for 2nd - 6th graders. Over the coming years, these students will work towards fluency in the Russian language, and we look forward to witnessing their growth and achievements.
Additionally, we are committed to fostering the academic and personal growth of all our students, providing them with a supportive and enriching learning environment. Our goal is to ensure that Overlake Elementary is a positive, safe, and successful experience for all students. We are dedicated to creating a nurturing atmosphere where every child can thrive.

Excusing an Absence on Skyward

To excuse a student on the app:

When parents sign up for the Skyward app, they will select a four-digit code.
Put in your four-digit code and continue to the app
Select the “hamburger button” (the triple bar or trigram symbol) on the top right.
From here you have two options, the first option (the message tab), will show you through the notification when your student was marked absent and what you need to excuse. With the attendance tab you simply submit a request.

Either of these two options will open a pop-up.
Complete the following information:
Student
Date/Time
Reason
Comment (optional – but very helpful, especially if you want to “excuse 2^nd hour”)
If you have more than one student and want this attendance request submitted for another student (maybe your family will be attending a funeral and all students need to be excused) then you can “Copy” the request and select additional students.
Submit

To submit a request from the website:

Click on the Families tab across the top
Click on Skyward for Parents
Log in
On the top right click student (if you only have one student you will just see your student’s name)
In the drop-down menu select the student’s name you need to excuse
Select Attendance in the menu on the left hand side
Click on the hyperlink at the top of the page “Absence Request.”
An “Add Request” pop-up block will open
Complete the following blocks:
Date/Time
Reason
Comment (optional, but once again, very helpful)
Save
Once you have “Saved” you will receive an email notification that an absence request has been submitted.
After the request has been processed, parents will receive a notification in Skyward
“(Student’s name) Absence Request has been (approved or denied)
The Absence Request submitted for (student) on (date) has been (approved or denied).
If a request is denied, a reason must be provided. It will then say “Go to your Absence Requests for further information.”

Vision Statement: The vision at Overlake Elementary School is to strive for improving and proficient students in all academic subjects and to instill in our students the values of kindness, empathy, and responsibility. Mission Statement: Our mission at Overlake Elementary is to prepare all students to be respectful, responsible, and lifelong learners.

Values (Collective Commitments):

1. All students can and will learn.

2. Everyone, students and adults, can make mistakes and learn from them.

3. We teach social and emotional learning lessons weekly in every classroom.

4. Both students and staff believe in and pursue continuing education.

5. We collaborate as grade level and school-wide PLC members.

6. We teach students in small groups and provide daily interventions.

7. We teach with best practices.

Goals:

1. As a school, we expect at least a 12% growth in our Acadience Reading and Math scores by the end of the year.

2. We teach Second Step lessons weekly.

3. Our K-3 and SPED teachers will complete LETRS training by the end of the next school year.

Supply Lists

Elementary Classroom Supplies and Donations

At the beginning of each year, many parents request a teacher supply list so they can furnish some items as a donation to the classroom setting. Utah law states that supplies will be provided by the school, however, in the 2012 Legislative Session it was approved for elementary schools to compile and provide a suggested list of supplies that may be brought/donated/furnished by parents on a voluntary basis that will be used in the classroom.

“Notice: The items on this list will be used during the regular school day. They may be brought from home on a voluntary basis. Otherwise, they will be furnished by the school.”

Tooele County School District appreciates all the supplies that parents choose to donate to help our students. If you are interested in donating supplies, we have created a suggested list by grade level.

The school district requires a background check for all volunteers before they can help at a school.

Step 1: Register and complete an application.

Step 2:Your application will be reviewed and you will be contacted via email if further information is needed. Make sure to check junk and spam folders for emails from Volunteer Tracker.

Step 3: Call Alesha Allred at the District Office 435-833-1900 Ext. 1128 with any questions.

Step 4: Watch for a renewal email each year. Renewing yearly via email means you will not have to complete the entire process again. If you don't, you must begin again with Step 1.
