Leadership Matters - Attitude of Gratitude

As we partner together as parents, students and educators to improve learning, gratitude can be an integral piece of the puzzle. We can look for ways to be thankful to one another for the efforts that are being made, and then work within that framework to improve together.

With that in mind, I would like to highlight many of the things we can be thankful for as partners in the education process.

  • Warm, clean buildings, (to include portable buildings)
  • Great books to read, and information to glean
  • Experiments to be conducted, and the materials for those experiments
  • Learning tools, such as: pencils, paper, books, rulers, or calculators
  • Students who dream, students who learn, students who do all they can to succeed
  • Parents/guardians of students who strive to educate their children alongside teachers
  • Teachers who give their time, their hearts, and their abilities for the betterment of students
  • Support staff who help in the classroom, make school breakfasts and lunches, clean the buildings, help maintain buildings or school vehicles, drive the buses, provide technology in the schools, and manage the communications and dealings of the school
  • Students are grateful for: recess, lunch, a teacher who cares, a friend to sit by, a helping hand when they are down, and the hope of a brighter future through the promise of an education

“It is not happiness that makes us grateful. It’s gratefulness that makes us happy,” said Benedictine monk David Steindl-Rast.

We are fortunate to be a part of the education process, and to be associated with the great schools in Tooele County School District. As we reflect on all of the good things in life, let us remember to unite together on behalf of kids.
